About Me
Mike's Mics
Well, obviously my name is Mike! I am based in Calgary, Alberta. A big fan of the Chicago Blues and blues in general, I have been inspired to learn to play Blues Harp. This has led to a natural progression towards amplfication, to wit the microphone is one half of the process.
Now, I love retro, and have found that microphones are a work of art unto themselves, and making them even better for the blues harp player is the perfect venue for that expression!
I start by taking vintage bullet style mics, giving them high quality old school automotive finishes of a bygone era, and retro-fitting (god I love that term) them with the much sought after and increasingly rare Shure Brothers controlled magnetic or reluctance (CM/CR) elements which in essence are the core of creating that gritty, crunchy Chicago Blues sound. I add a matched volume potentiometer (pot), new gasket, nice volume control knob, and in some models (Astatic JT-30's), a colour co-ordinated grill cloth. ALL HAND-BUILT & HAND-WIRED WITH TLC! These mics are truly Old School.
Right now my supply of parts is limited, so I will be posting completed projects on my for sale page. If you have any questions or special requests at all, please feel free to contact me anytime at mikesmics@shaw.ca.
